My name is Avgoustis Tiniakos, more commonly known as A.J. I am honored to serve as a member of the Newington Town Council.

I graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University with two bachelor’s degrees; one in Criminal Justice and the other in Sociology, and currently work in town for Progressive Insurance as an injury claims supervisor. 

Over the years, a large portion of my time has been spent giving back to the community, and I lead by example. I am no stranger to volunteering, whether it be Best Buddies CT, the CT Special Olympics, the Covenant Soup Kitchen in Willimantic and local events here in Newington. I am also a member of the Hartford Wanderers Men’s Rugby Club where I hold a leadership position among my team. 

My motivation for serving on the town council here in Newington springs from my desire to see the town thrive in the coming generations. As a homeowner, I plan to spend the future here in Newington and as such would like to cultivate a town that pushes for responsible government and transparency from their leadership.

I feel that through thoughtful development of the towns’ space, accompanied with protecting our future education services, we will be able to create a town that will be seen as a gold standard of functionality for the rest of the state to admire. I pledge to serve the people of this town to the best of my abilities!
